Isuzu Southern Kings board confirmed

A new five-person board has been confirmed to oversee the Isuzu Southern Kings affairs.

Mr Andre Rademan, the Eastern Province Rugby Union (EPRU) president, has been appointed as the new chairman and is joined by Mr Mbulelo Gidane, chairman of the EPRU Finance and Human Resources Committee, SA Rugby Executive Council nominees, Mr Monde Tabata and Mr Jannie Louw, and independent, Mr Gugu Nxiweni, who has been retained from the previous board.

The appointments follow SA Rugby’s renewed involvement in the franchise, following the decision to take back a 74% shareholding on 19 June after the equity partner – the Greatest Rugby Company in the Whole Wide World (GRC) – was unable to meet contractual commitments.

The EPRU have two places on the board as the minority shareholder (26%).

SA Rugby has assumed responsibility for the management of the franchise’s affairs while team preparations for a return-to-play under Kings’ director of rugby, Robbie Kempson, are being supported by the SA Rugby’s, director of rugby, Rassie Erasmus.

Isuzu Southern Kings sign scrumhalf Cameron Wright

The Isuzu Southern Kings can confirm that experienced halfback, Cameron Wright, will be joining the Eastern Cape-based franchise.

The 26-year-old scrumhalf joins the Kings on a two-year contract which will officially commence on 1 September 2020.

Wright has spent most of his career plying his trade at the Durban-based Super Rugby side The Sharks from 2014 until present, with a two-year stint in France where he turned out for Top 14 outfit, Montpellier, between 2015 and 2017.

“We are excited to have Cameron Wright joining us,” Isuzu Southern Kings backline coach, Vuyo Zangqa, confirmed on Tuesday.

“We have been looking for a quality No9, so we are very excited that he will be joining our group and becomes part of the Kings family. He is a very good player and we are excited and looking forward to his contribution to the side.

“What we have been looking for is an experienced halfback after having only had Stefan Ungerer in the 2019/20 season as the only experienced No9 available to us. Stefan has made a great contribution, and now having someone with good experience behind them, like Cameron, also adding to our pool will take us to a higher level.

“Cameron will bring with him not only the experience, but quality skills like kicking and his footwork. We needed to have at least two quality scrumhalves whom the younger players like Josh Allderman and Gavin Mills will get to learn so much from, and they can take the baton from them.”
